The April 2010 issue of Utah Business features 2010's "30 Women to Watch," an annual feature in the magazine that recognizes thirty "passionate, driven and focused" women from Utah's diverse business community. Scores of nominations are received every year for this competitive award, but only thirty are selected, largely based on their risk-taking, barrier-breaking leadership. Among those selected to be a part of this year's prestigious group was H&H's Cecilia Romero. Cecilia was honored at a luncheon in May. The presentation included video interviews of each woman being honored, with supporting comments by colleagues. Lois Baar, one of Cecilia's H&H mentors, was interviewed in the video and offered her positive observations about working with Cecilia.
With primary practice areas in commercial litigation and labor and employment law, Cecilia says that even though the practice of law can be demanding, she "enjoys the challenge of the law and the strategy and collaboration that is involved in working to secure solutions for clients."
She places emphasis on the value of hard work, saying, "I want my children to see they can achieve whatever they want as long as they are willing to work for it." Cecilia and her husband, state Senator Ross Romero, are the parents of a pre-school son and an infant daughter, who was born just after Cecilia was selected as one of the "30 Women to Watch."
In addition to her legal work, as a woman with Native American and Mexican American heritage, Cecilia feels a responsibility to mentor other women of color, which she does through her active membership in the Utah Native American Bar Association and the Utah Minority Bar Association.
